New Perspectives in Active Systems 2023
Active Days EUTOPIA -- Challenges in Active Matter 2022
School on Active Matter 2021

We use tools from theoretical physics to understand complex biological systems. In close collaboration with experimentalists, we perform data analysis and develop theoretical models using elements from dynamical systems, non-equilibrium statistical mechanics, complex network theory, and/or stochastic processes. Most of our research falls within one of the most dynamic and rapidly expanding areas of physics:

Active & Living Matter

We contribute to the development of Active & Living Matter theory, and apply it to understand individual and collective behaviors across scales in biological systems. Some specific topics we are currently interested in: Transition from individual to collective motion, collective motion in confinement and in heterogeneous media. Self-organized behavior in collections of intelligent active units and physical properties of proliferating matter.
