The aim of the present research project is to investigate the complex dynamics of semiconductor lasers with external optical feedback. Below the solitary laser threshold, the dynamical evolution of the intensity of the laser is extremely complicated and is characterized by the so-called Low-frequency fluctuations (LFF).
This regime has been not yet completely understood and we would like to characterize this dynamics from the point of view of the theory of high dimensional chaotic systems.
Several rate equations have been developed to reproduce the
dynamics of semiconductor lasers, among them the most known is the
Lang-Kobayashi equation. We would like to make a detailed comparison
of numerical versus experimental results to test the limit of
validity and applicability of such rate equation in the LFF regime.
